Social
“Captivating“, "energetic“, “mesmerising“, and “unforgettable“ are just some of the words that could be used to describe the “Shambolics” who gave a very powerful performance to help nearly 100 members to bring in the New Year on Wednesday. Members danced, jigged and sung the evening away whilst enjoying the fantastic music.
£1,600.50 Raised for Pilgrims Hospice
Monday 8th December 2025 1:02 pm
Social, Events
Bright sunshine encouraged a large gathering to our Christmas Fair on Saturday. Friends caught up over a cuppa & mince pie then visited our Christmas stalls which raised over £500 towards our Centenary celebrations. Members also took the opportunity to register their sizes for the new Club Kit. Dates when Full Members can do this are displayed on the notice board in the Clubhouse and have already been circulated by email.
The highlight of the morning however was the presentation of a huge cheque, to the value of £1600.50 to Pilgrims Hospice, by Pam and John, in respect of the money collected throughout the year for the Captain's charity. This included over £500 from the charity boxes on the tables and over £1000 which was raised through the sale of tickets, auction and raffle held at the hog roast evening in November. Well done Pam & John!
Captain's Charity Hog Roast

Social, Events
What a fantastic turnout in support of Pam and John’s charity event. The club house was full to capacity with many members dressed in country and western outfits. Out the back of the clubhouse John’s grandson had set up his hog roast gazebo ready for service whilst our members chatted and caught up with friends and family. A delicious plateful was provided which everyone enjoyed. After the food Dennis entertained us with a variety of tunes which drew members to the floor for a good ol’ knees up.
Race Night Social Report
Wednesday 15th October 2025 5:11 pm
Social, Events
A bevy of belles and some very sophisticated gentleman were among the the members who spent a fantastic night at the races on Saturday 4th October.
The evening began with good English fare which was enjoyed by everyone. Our steward for the night, Shaun, then set the scene and the placing of the bets and excitement of the races ensued.
At the interval the “Ladies day” competition was judged. The Ladies who dressed to impress, wore elegant dresses and flaunted big, beautiful hats whilst their escorts wore sophisticated top hat and tails or the odd Fedora. Linda Packman took the Ladies’ prize winning a bottle of champagne for her dazzling outfit. A special mention should go to Jill Tipper who hand made her hat to match her outfit. The mans prize was won by a very dapper Bruce Packman in his morning suit
The evening concluded with an owners race where members bid to ‘own' a horse and win half the takings for that horse. Simon Child was the lucky owner.
The Social Team would like to thank everyone taking part in this enjoyable event. The money raised contributed to our Centenary Fund.
Our next event is one of our famous Quiz Nights with Dennis & Mel, November 1st 7.00 for 7.30 start. Tables of 6 - 8 people, family and friends welcome. £4/head.
Thank You
The Social Team

Clubhouse Reggae Night Raises Funds and Spirits
Wednesday 16th July 2025 10:58 am
Social
Oh what a night! Balloons, posters and streamers set the atmosphere for a wonderful evening of music that was enjoyed by almost 100 members, family & friends on Saturday night.
Neil Sartain, a professional reggae singer, rocked the clubhouse with his passionate tribute to Bob Marley and the Reggae genre. He belted out songs with enthusiasm as the members danced away to all-time favourites such as ‘No Woman No Cry’ and ‘Is This Love?’. Some of our members were great sports, dressed the part & even donned dreadlock wigs or carried pretend spliffs to get in the groove! Their costumes bringing a smile to all those attending. The fancy dress competition was won by George Johnson for the gents and Vicky Lewis for the ladies, winning a bottle of rum and malibu respectively.
A very successful night raised funds towards our centenary celebrations. Thanks go to our social committee for their efforts and organisation and to all those that helped on the bar.
BBQ & Paella Evening
Friday 27th June 2025 4:12 pm
Social
Despite a yellow alert, a forecast for thunderstorms, intense downpours and frequent lightning, the club BBQ and Paella evening went ahead as planned. The weather remained calm all day, but, just as the BBQ was firing up, the heavens decided to open. Unperturbed Steven braved the torrential rain under an umbrella to provide a scrumptious BBQ of chicken, burgers and sausages whilst inside Jane, Janet & Janet’s daughter slaved over the cooker with 3 extra-large paella pans. Together they catered for almost one hundred people. A tall order in those conditions!
