August Pétanque Results

Our first HBBC Pétanque Competition, which has been running on Wednesday evenings throughout August has come to a close. Generally, the weather has been kind and this fun filled mid-week event was very well populated with nearly 40 members enjoying the competition, company and food. Thanks must go to all those in organising and running the event and especially to Jane & Jacqui for the supply of such excellent food throughout.

Our annual Men’s Captain vs Vice Captain match was held last Saturday, 9th August, with Vice Captain Tony Knibbs claiming victory. It was an enjoyable day, and it was great to see several of our long-standing members who were invited to watch the match. Middleton Cup Win for Kent at Leamington

Winning the Middleton Cup competition has eluded Kent since 1993 but this year they managed to defeat Devon in the semifinals (125 - 106) and Northamptonshire in the final (121 - 111) over the six rinks to bring it back home! Our players gave it their all with a tremendous display of top class bowling.
Rink Bookings and Selections

The use of the online rink booking system has now ended and we have now returned to using the rink booking folder located in the greenkeepers hut. Any rinks that were booked (online) up until 01/08/2021 have been transferred across.
From Thursday, 22nd July, selections will still be available to view on our fixtures page but email notifications will end. Selections will be published via the match sheets down the club prior to being available on the website, and so, we encourage members to check the match sheets regularly and tick their names off.

Bay won 3 and drew 1 of the 6 triples at Ashford Town in the first game of the Forest of Blean League campaign. A 24-shot win for Dave Knight, Russell Cooper and Eddie Allen gave Bay the overall shots points.

As most of you are myself and Gary are riding the London to Brighton 74 miles off road bike ride on September 23rd in aid of British Heart Foundation, who are the biggest funder of cardiovascular research in the UK. I am pleased to say that we have now raised £1300.00 in sponsorship.

Congratulations to all those reaching the finals of the club competitions this year. Finals Weekend is being held on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th September, the programme for the day is currently being formulated and will be distributed shortly. Players and spectators who would like to purchase an afternoon meals, please put your names down on the sheet up by the kitchen hatch. Sandwiches are also available to purchase if preferred.
Fant Abba Ulous Night

A fant abba ulous night was had by all dancing and singing along to the sound of Absolute Abba, you could say it was hot, hot, hot. Tony and Roy with fevered and perspiring brows waited continuously throughout the night along with the bar staff of Sue and Paul also working non stop to keep the crowd lubricated. Sue could be seen bopping whilst serving which gives an indication of the infectiousness of the night. As mentioned before it was a hot sticky night but the energy was found by the crowd both during the show and in the interval to get up and strut their stuff. The night was rounded off by everybody singing Thank You For The Music. Food was arranged, prepared and served by the hard working social section of Mo, Sandra, Lillian and Gill. We would like to thank all who attended for making the evening a huge success.

If you are not already aware, please note that match lists for at least the first 8 games of the coming season are now up in both men's and ladies changing rooms. The match against Belevedere Social on Sunday 20th April will be selected this weekend. Opening Day Drive

A message from your Captains regarding the Opening Day Drive on Saturday 19th April 2014. Please note that as getting everyone registered and into teams takes time we would suggest that all that wish to play are present by 2pm. The last registration time that will guarantee you can play will be 2.10pm by the clock at the bar. Anyone arriving after this time will only be allowed to play (at the Captain's discretion) if it does not interfere with the construction of teams. As an example if 72 players have registered at 2.10pm making 18 Fours there is no way that anyone else will be considered.
Can you also ensure that you report directly to the Captain's on arrival at the club.

All members and visitors to Herne Bay are respectfully reminded, that there is a total no smoking ban within the interior of the club. Outside there are allocated smoking points. This no smoking includes all artificial smoking aids.

Presentation of cheque to KAB

Herne Bay Bowls Club held their annual Charity Day on Saturday at which a cheque for £3,800 was presented to Chrissie Keeley, representing the Charity Kent Association for The Blind. The money was primarily raised by the club over the past year as sponsorship for the London Marathon run that current Captain Bill Robb did in April of this year. With on line donations and gift aid added, the total KAB will receive is £4,765. Bill had decided to run the marathon on behalf of KAB as his granddaughter Hallie 2 and a half was born blind. Hallie and her family have received tremendous support from the Charity. Ms. Keeley thanked members of the club for the efforts they had made and said it was a fantastic amount raised for the Charity.

Congratulations to Men's Captain Bill Robb on completing the London Marathon in a time of 4 hours and 53 minutes. In the process Bill raised nearly £4,000 in aid of the Kent Association for the Blind. A big thank you to all those members who have contributed over the past year.

Charity Day raises £1091

On Saturday 23rd June we raised a fantastic sum of money, £1091.00, for our chosen Charity - Kent Association for the Blind. This money will be kept safe until Bill Robb hears if he has a place in the London Marathon. If he gets the place, the money will help to sponsor him. If not it will go straight to the charity along with the money in the collection boxes.
