"The Bay Are On The March". Another fierce encounter in the Cox Cup saw us conquer our distant rivals Folkestone, a side who put us out the same competition last year. The green at Folkestone can best be described as "sporting" If it was your night great - if it wasn't - hard luck. The opposition did agree that most of the "fortune" was shared among their 4 and my congratulations to the Bay 4 of Steve Brown, Bob Baldwin, Paul Woolford and Eddie Allen of sticking to the task when "lady luck" did not smile on our lads. At 6 ends we were 1 - 8 down but cheered by the report from the home rink of Dave Mason, Scott Whiting, Ian Robb and Joe Kelly leading 15 - 1 at the same stage. With "Lady Luck" continuing give a glace let alone a smile the news from Spencer Road 23 - 6 up after 15 we knew that to keep it tight awayfrom home and the result would come. Whilst "Lady Luck" did not change sides she deserted our opponents on the last 2 ends where we took an eventual deserved total of 6 shots to draw the game 16 all. The home rink won by 27 shots to 15 which places us nicely (if I am correct) in the Divisional Semi Final where we play Canterbury next Monday ( 1 August) 6pm. All supporters who witnessed our game in the Top Club will know what to expect. I promised then a top class exciting game with some of the top bowlers in Kent appearing. I again promise the same for this fixture. So come along next Monday to Spencer Road or Canterbury Bowls Club you will not be disappointed.
