Team Managers Bugle
Monday 27th June 2016 3:37 pm
On the previous Bugle I promised close, keenly fought, class, fast and exciting bowling. Those fortunate enough to take my advice saw exactly that. The Bugle was blowing well into the night as The Bay recorded a magnificent 4 - 1 win over Canterbury. Anyone who reads the result and did not witness the game will think "an easy stroll on the green". This win was anything but. David Mason got us off on the right foot with a 14 - 13 win in the 2 wood. He was one shot down on the last end and secured a full house to win the game. The Triple ( Steve Brown, Shaun Woolford and Paul Woolford) were next to finish with a comfortable 19 - 9 win. Then came the excitement. The fours lost by a couple of shots ( 2 - 1 overall to the The Bay). The Singles ( Joe Kelly 19 - 19 after being 7 - 0 down and trailing all game) and the Pairs Terry Kelly & Ian Robb ( after leading all game held a one shot advantage on their final end). Joe secured the 2 shots necessary with Terry & Ian taking that all important last end. It would be wrong to single out one person but I thought all four players in the single disciplines (Dave & Joe from The Bay & Mick Fisher & Alan Cornfoot from Canterbury) deserve special mention. Gentlemen your bowling was outstanding an absolute masterclass. All the lads from Canterbury were exceptionally gracious in defeat especially as the result could so easily have been reversed. So onto the next round - Sandwich away (6th or 10th July at 6pm). Finally the team & myself would like to thank Joyce, Maureen and Angie for an excellent meal, Andrew for turning up as reserve, Stan for umpiring, Brian & Roy for marking, Bob Day for locking up (another member failed to appear) twice thanks to Terry Kelly, Carol & Eddie for washing up, Alf & Roy again for standing in on the bar and last but certainly not least the many spectators who witnessed last nights spectacular.
