Team Manager's Bugle
Herne Bays interest in the Top Club ended on Thursday evening when our remaining side deservedly went out to a better Sandwich side. Whilst the 2 - 3 reverse may have appeared close, in all fairness I felt that Sandwich always held the upper hand. Our two single players suffered reasonably heavy defeats and our fours were always playing catch up. Unfortunately, excellent wins in the Pairs (Scott Whiting and Paul Woolford) 18 - 12 and the triples (Terry Kelly, Bill Robb and Joe Kelly) 23 - 11 were not enough to see us through. A mention must be given to Alfie Lewis who came into the rinks at the last minute and gave a most impressive debut at this level. Well done Alfie maybe the singles next year?
The team and myself would like to thank Stan Miller for umpiring, another faultless display, Mo and Angie for the meal afterwards. Bob and Brian for the waiter service. Alf, Roy and John for the bar work. Again, Roy and John (thanks Lyn for letting him out) for marking. Plus, all the supporters for their attendance - I promise you it is appreciated by all the players.
We have a chance of making some sort of amends next Sunday 3 June 2018 at 10am when we host Canterbury in the English Bowling Association Double Fours. For anybody who isn't aware this game will host some of the finest bowlers in Kent. So, if you have the chance before your Sunday roast come and support the lads your attendance will be fully appreciated, and I will ensure the bar is open for a pre-lunch tipple.
