Team Managers Bugle
Sunday 3rd May 2015 9:32 pm
A week best described as The Good, The Bad and the Ugly.
We got off to a good week with a win at Ashford Town in the Preliminary Round of the EBA Double Fours. Congratulations must go to Peter Nolan, Mike Trotter, Bob Day, Steve Brown, Ray Chipperfield. Peter Gibson, Brian Gisby and Robbie Irons. My thanks also go to Bill Robb. Bob Simcock, Alf Collar, John & Lyn Philips & Mike Ward who made the long journey to support the team on a cold night. The next round has been arranged for Sunday 17 May at 10am at home to Kearsney (team sheet up in the dressing room).
Friday night was "The Bad" in the other entry in the Double 4's against a Sandwich side that were beatable but unfortunately that was not to be. I felt the conditions and green although the same for both, tended to favour our visitors. The opposing skip against Joe seemed to be walking on water and got that little bit of fortune at times that we all need and hope it comes for us in the big game. Whilst some of our team played well below their normal standard  I feel that this team has great potential and the ability to progress well in other competitions. Although we were in a position to "claim the game" I felt it was right to play the format which was decided. We arrive at the ground wanting to play or watch a game of bowls and I hope if our members are faced in a similar position to the one several of the Sandwich players found themselves in, then we will be afforded the same courtesy. Finally my thanks to the many members who supported the club on a very, very cold night. Hopefully the weather & performance will be better next time.Oh and "The Ugly". I hate loosing - even more so on my own patch.  "Buttons" the cat made a hasty retreat on my arrival home. It was probably the closing of the front door that sent her retreating behind the sofa. "No comforting lap & late night TV there then?"
