Match Reports, Short Mat
1/12/25 Hurricanes vs Boughton Acorns (Home) The Hurricanes played their first match of the week against Boughton Acorns at home. Dave Knight, Brian Bridges and Russell Cooper got off to a terrible start on the red mat, going 8-0 down after just five ends. Fortunately, they then scored a 5 which brought them back into the game. From then on, the tables turned and the home team won 6 of the next ten ends, each with a score of 2, 3 or 4 totally reversing the trend. Final score 21-12 to Hurricanes.
On the blue mat Jacqui Cooper, Dave McNeely & Brian Gisby had a steady game winning 10 of the 15 ends. Final score 18-8 to Hurricanes. With 6-0 match points to Hurricanes they maintained their lead at the top of Division One.
2/12/25 Lancasters vs Aylesham Warblers (Home) In the return match, the Lancasters triumphed over the Warblers getting their revenge following their loss last week. On the red mat, Addi Sanni, Shaun Green and Dave Prior had a brilliant game winning 10 of the 15 ends. Final Score 17-11 to the Lancasters.
On the blue mat Graham & Janet Packman welcomed the return of their skip, Jane Lee. The game was neck and neck until the 10th end with each team holding 8 points. With a final push and a few fantastic shots from Jane the Lancasters took 6 points from the last three ends to win the match 14-10 overall. Revenge accomplished! Match points 6-0 to Lancasters who moved one place up the table to 7th position.
3/12/25 Boughton Acorns vs Hurricanes (Away) Although the Hurricanes are top of Division One, they have played a few games more than other teams in the league. Capel Kiwis are hot on their heals being only one point behind with 2 games in hand. Hurricanes therefore needed to secure a 6-0 win at Boughton, in their second game of the week, to keep up the pressure on the Kiwis. Dave Knight, Dave McNeely and Russell Cooper again got off to a slow start going 5-0 down after 3 ends. From then on Hurricanes took charge and won 9 of the next 12 ends to win the game 14-9 overall.
On the second mat Jacqui Cooper, Brian Gisby and Eddie Allen were drawing 6-6 after 9 ends. A very close game all round until the Hurricanes picked up a 5 on the 10th end. From then on, the Acorns struggled to come back, and the Hurricanes took the game 15-8 and the match 6-0.
4/12/25 Spitfires vs Barham Bears (Home) In the Spitfires last match before Christmas, they were keen to play on their own mats following the difficulties encountered last week at Barham. With two Spitfires unavailable, John Offer stood in for Linda Charlesworth and Pat Knight for Pauline Hougham. Both teams played very well and secured 6 match points. Pat, Maureen & Colin won 16-12 on the red mat and Jane Chubb, Derek Hewett and John Offer had a tremendous 33-9 win on the blue mat. This result maintains Spitfires 4th place in Division 2.
A good week for all the Herne Bay teams.
