Match Reports, Short Mat
Spitfires vs Aylesham Starlings 26.2.26 (Home) The Spitfires have had a stroke of good fortune this week. A discrepancy in the league table was identified which was to Spitfires benefit. Points earned at their match against Canterbury Bells had not been added. This meant 4 points were due and when added brought their total to 39 points before today’s match. This took the pressure off Spitfires and took them out of the relegation zone.
In the match against Starlings, both the Spitfire teams played extremely strong games winning 10 of the 15 ends each. Maureen, Pauline & Colin won 20-9 whilst Jane Chubb, Marianne & John won 25-8. With Aylesham Starlings not taking any points from the match, and the 6 points going to Spitfires, it lifts Spitfires to finish 3rd in the table with 45 points, pushing Starlings into 4th place. With the last match between Minster Hinds, top of the table and Sturry Seals in 7thposition still to be played, whatever that result it will not alter the final position of Spitfires who will finish in 3rd place. Well Done Spitfires!
Boughton Courtenays vs Lancasters 28.2.26 (Away) Lancasters played their last match of the season against the Courtenays at Boughton on Friday. With Pam not able to play, Dave Prior stood in as skip whilst Chistine covered for Pam at 1, and Dave Stuart playing 2. Despite some strong ends Courtenays had the habit of squeezing in and taking the points. Lancasters lost the game 14-7.
On the other mat, Jane Lee, Janet & Graham Packman played the stronger game winning 12-8. The final scores meant Lancasters took 2 league points from the game moving them up to finish in 4th place for the season. A very worthy result considering 5 of the 9 Lancasters have played in the league for two seasons or less. Well done Lancasters!!
