Our teams have had a mixed start to the season.
Fixture 1: Spitfires were first up playing Minter Hinds away. Unfortunately, Minster won both mats (28-4 & 25-6) so took the 6 points, but Spitfires are hoping to fare better in the home return match.
Janet & Graham Packman, who were playing in the league for the first time on Tuesday with Jane Lee for Lancasters, got off to a tremendous start with a 'hotshot' on the first end against Eastling Cherries. They went on to win their mat 18-12 whilst the second mat unfortunately lost 8-15. Overall, the Lancasters narrowly lost by just 1 point (26-27) so took only 2 of the 6 points available.
Hurricanes started well taking all 6 points at home in their first game. Jacqui Cooper, Dave McNeely & Brian Gisby had a runaway victory on the blue mat winning 24-6, whilst Dave Knight, Brian Bridges & Russell Cooper had to fight on the red mat but came through with a 13-10 victory.
Fixture 1 return matches: Unfortunately, Lancasters struggled on the slow mats at Eastling losing 12-9 and 17-10, dropping all 6 points.
The Spitfires second match was held at home. They fared much better; John Offer, Linda Charlesworth and Jane Chubb won convincingly on the blue mat (22-14) whilst Colin Tobutt, Pauline Hougham & Maureen Tobutt narrowly lost on the red mat by 1 point on the last end (13-14). Overall winning (35-28) 4 points to 2.
The Hurricanes return match is not scheduled until the end of the month.
