Match Reports, Short Mat
12/1/26 Hurricanes vs Sturry Squirrels (home) With two games to play this week, both home & away, Hurricanes hosted Sturry Squirrels on Monday. With Jacqui Cooper, Angie & Brian Gisby on the blue mat and Dave Knight, Dave McNeely & Russell Cooper on the red mat, both teams secured runaway victories over the Squirrels 26-4 and 26-8 (including a ‘hot shot’) respectively. This maintains the Hurricanes top position in League Division 1.
The maximum points Hurricanes can achieve if they win their last 3 games is 67. If the Kiwis win all their 6 remaining games 6-0 they can achieve 72 points. Hurricanes must therefore secure 18 points from their last 3 games, to keep the pressure on the Kiwis, and hope the Kiwis drop some points, if Hurricanes are to win the League. We will wait to see!
12/1/26 Chilham Herons vs Lancasters (away) With the Herons having the home advantage, they beat the Lancasters taking 4 of the 6 points available for the match. Addy Sanni, Shaun Green and Dave Prior worked hard, secured a ‘hot shot’ to beat their opponents 9-12 giving the Lancasters 2 points. Unfortunately, Graham Packman, who stood in for Pam Head due to illness, Dave and Chris Stuart were unable to match their opposition and lost 23-2. The result meant Lancasters dropped one position to 5th in Division 3.
15/1/26 Spitfires vs Aylesham Magpies (home) Having taken just 2 points from the away game, Spitfires were keen to return to our faster mats for the home game against Magpies. On the red mat Maureen, Pauline & Colin only lost 4 ends out of 15 and dropped a total of 6 points in the whole game. A fantastic win by 24 points to 6 was sweet revenge over the Magpies. On the blue mat Pat Knight, Marianne & John also tasted the nectar winning 21 points to 12.
The six match points took Spitfires to hold 31 points & 4th position in Division 2, just two points off third place with 4 games to play.
18/1/26 Sturry Squirrels vs Hurricanes Hurricanes met the Squirrels in the return away match on Sunday afternoon. Needing to take all 6 match points to keep the pressure on the Kiwis the Hurricanes had to perform well. A difficult match ensued. On the slower of the two mats Dave Knight, Dave McNeely & Russell Cooper had a close match but won the game 12 points to 10. On the other mat Jacqui Cooper, Brian Gisby & Eddie Allen struggled all the way, unfortunately losing 18-7. This leaves Hurricanes in the top spot in Division 1 with only 2 games to play. The other teams are queuing up behind with matches in hand. Hurricanes will complete all their matches and will then have to play the waiting game to see the final result.
All three Herne Bay Teams now have a two-week break before they play again, allowing the other teams to play their games in hand. We will watch the league tables with baited breath!!
