Hurricanes vs Swalecliffe Seagulls 9/2/26 (Home) With their final two games having been voided by the withdrawal of ARCA from the league earlier in the season, the Hurricanes played their last match of the Short Mat League and had a runaway win against the Seagulls at home on Monday. Jacqui Cooper, Angie and Brian Gisby won eleven of the fifteen ends with a final score of 28-5 whilst Dave McNeely, Dave Knight and Russell Cooper won twelve of their fifteen ends to win by 30 points to 3. The overall score of 58-8 gave the Hurricanes the 6 match points they needed to secure the top spot in the Division. They can now not be beaten even if the two closest teams win all of their remaining games. Well done Hurricanes, Division one Champions!
Lancasters vs Canterbury Choughs 10/2/26 (Home) In the return match against the Choughs, the Lancasters were desperate to get their revenge after losing the away match by just one point last week. Jane Lee, together with Janet and Graham Packman had a fantastic game on the blue mat winning ten of the fifteen ends to take the game 22-11. On the red mat, like last week it was neck and neck all the way. This time however it was the Lancasters who took the point on the last end to win the game 15-14. With an overall score of 37-25 Lancasters earn six match points to take them above their closest rivals, Eastling Cherries and into 5th place in the third division. Lancasters still have a home and away fixture against Boughton Courtenays to play over the next two weeks to see how they finish in the league.
Canterbury Bells vs Spitfires 12/2/26 (Away) The Spitfires visited Canterbury to play the Bells. Pat Knight, Marianne & John Offer got off to a good start winning the first three ends to go 4-0 up. Unfortunately, the Bells made a strong comeback winning the next four ends to take the lead 4-5. Spitfires fought back to 12-7 only to lose it on the last two ends by 6 shots giving the Bells the game. On the second mat, Jane Chubb, Pauline Hougham and Derek Hewett struggled throughout. Despite taking 7 of the 15 ends, they lost 16-7.
