Results of the Diane Wiltshire Pairs Competition

Short Mat, Club Competitions
Our 3rd Short Mat Pairs Competition took place on Saturday. Thirty-two members, 16 pairs, competed for the shiny trophy and the title of Herne Bay Bowling Club Short Mat Pairs Champions!
The format of the competition was a 3-wood pairs, round robin qualifier, with members competing against each other over 6 ends. The group stages were eagerly contested. With a change to the format since last year, the top two teams, from each of the four groups, went on to compete in quarterfinals. Only two of the 16 pairs won all their games in the round robin stage, these were Marianne & John together with Addy & Dave Prior.
The quarterfinals mixed up the group winners and runners up to play against each other, with the victors progressing to the semi-finals. Three pairs progressed easily with wide margins of victory whilst the game between Derek & Bill Castle and Pam & Dave Stuart was much more closely fought.
The top four pairs went on to compete in the semi-finals and then the final/ 3rd & 4th playoffs. Drawn mats made the games more challenging.
Third / fourth place was contested by Russell & Jacqui against Pam & Dave Stuart with Russell & Jacqui winning 9-2 on the red mat. Whilst Dave Knight & Jane Chubb opposed Addy & Dave Prior for the title on the blue mat.
In a fitting end to a very enjoyable but long day, Dave and Jane became champions for 2026 winning 6-3 to Addy & Dave who did themselves proud, putting up an extremely hard fight. I am sure Diane would have been pleased with the result!
The day concluded with a presentation ceremony with Dave and Jane accepting the trophy which was presented by our Chairperson Russell.
