Team Managers Bugle

Match Reports

I don't think that in all my years bowling I have ever seen a side walk off the green so dejected. It wasn't the fact that they had been defeated but the manner in which the game had been lost. I do not think there was anybody present at Herne Bay tonight who didn't think that "The Bay" deserved something from this game. Fair enough Gateway kept their nerve at the end but I think "The Gods" did not smile on our lads tonight. With good wins in the singles & pairs The Bay needed a win in either the Fours or the Triples. The Fours led by one shot until the 21st end when the opposing skip drew shot with the last wood to tie the game. An extra end was played at the same time as the Triples played their last end with the scores level. The end result is now history and we must turn our attention to the Cox Cup - a competition I think we have a very good chance of having a very good run.

My thanks go to Roy Chillingworth & Mike Trotter for marking, Bob Day for umpiring & Angie  & Maureen for a splendid evening meal. The team & I would also like to thank all those who turned up to support - apart from the result I have no doubt you all enjoyed an excellent evening bowling.

Once at home I attempted to explain to Buttons the finer points of a 2-3 defeat in an EBA Top Club Bowls Competition but a warm lap and the background sound of the recording of the England v New Zealand cricket sent her off to the land of Nod with the room soon filling up with zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz 's.
