If you read our Presidents article on Fabulous Friday, we managed to have a Super Saturday to follow. Herne Bay entered three teams in this year’s Cox Cup and at the request of Folkestone Park one of our rinks was requested to play on Saturday morning instead of the usual Monday evening. What followed can only be described as a total destruction. I was fortunate enough to witness Bill Gibbon, Tony Knibbs, Gordon Kent and Bob Day complete 30 shots to 10 win at Spenser Road. Communication with the away rink was not at its best but late in the game the message came through that the rink of Ritchie Callanan, Roy Chillingworth, Paul Evans and Alf Collar were winning by a similar score to our lads at home. They eventually won by 27 shots to 10. Considering Folkstone Park only entered one side I think that this reflects the all-round strength of "The Bay". Very well done to both the home and away sides you did "The Bay" proud. The next round will see the same 8 selected (Ray Chipperfield replacing the unavailable Tony Knibbs) play either Canterbury 'A' or Ashford Rail 'B' on Monday 16th July at 6pm.
