Smiles All Round
There were smiles all round in the bar area of Spenser Road last night as our two remaining sides in the Cox up experienced excellent victories in the 1st Round. They join our other successful side who demolished Folkstone Park on “Super Saturday” morning. Old cobwebs were blown away as one old timer was heard to remark "Never 'appened in my lifetime son, three through to the 2nd round of the Cox? 'Un'eared of". The rink of Mike Trotter, Len Brown, Bob Baldwin and Brian Dennis had a great victory at Hythe winning 26 - 14 whilst their home pairing with David Knight, Steve Brown, Brian Gisby and Jim Watson (who took a six on the final end) won 22 - 18. Making a total victory of 48 - 32. Our final double rink eased to a 55 - 23 victory over Whitstable with Les Mason, David Mason, Paul Woolford and Grant Allen thrashing their opponents 35 - 11 whilst the home rink of Alfie Lewis, Eddie Allen, Ian Robb and Joe Kelly easing to a 20 - 12 win. The team and I would like to thank Sandra, Mo and Angie for the food and drink supplied last night and the numerous supporters including Alf and Joyce who joined me at Whitstable - your support ladies and gents is really appreciated. One interesting fact emerged was that whilst Herne Bay entered 3 teams with reserves, two sides (Hythe and Folkestone Park) entered only 1 (their best?). At the time of writing our next opponents are not known.
