The annual Herne Bay Mixed Triples open Tournament attracted 18 team entries. Each team played 6 games of 50 minutes duration with 2 points for winning, a point for each end won and all shots scored during the day counting as 1 point each. The winners were a Queenborough triple Jack Jarvis, Gina Shoebridge and John Crouch with 99 points. Runners uo were from Birchington, Pam Back, Alan Back and Alan Robinson with 89 points with 3rd place money going to Lyn Phillips and Bill Robb of Herne Bay and Vic Field of Margate with 84 points.
Herne Bay have a 5 point lead at the top of the Forest of Blean league with one more game to be played. Whilst nearest rivals Canterbury suffered a shock 5 â€“ 3 points defeat at Charing, Bay secured a thrilling 7 â€“ 1 points victory at Whitstable with a 72 shot victory. Bay won 5 of the 6 triples with Dave Mason, Robbie Irons and Ian Robb again being the main foundation with a 34 â€“ 4 win.
Honours were shared in the 10 rink mixed match with Medway Bowling Association with 4 wins each and 2 drawn. Medway won overall by 38 shots. The best winning rink for Bay was Dawn Harris, Andre Allen, Bob Dartnall and Ray Chipperfield 30 â€“ 16.
