We all knew about Super Saturday when GB won all those golds at the London Olympics in 2012. Well today was FABULOUS FRIDAY for Herne Bay BC. This morning Mike Trotter, Len Brown, Bob Baldwin and Brian Dennis had a convincing win in the Divisional Final of the over 55 fours and progress to the County semi-final to be played at Kemsley BC on Saturday 28 July.
Tonight at Aylesham & Snowdown BC with 20 travelling supporters cheering them on we had 2 fours competing in their Divisional Final.
In a night of high drama and excitement both teams were triumphant. All 8 players deserve plaudits for yet again highlighting the playing strength of our club. In normal circumstances I would not highlight the performance of 1 person but pride of place on the evening must go to Alfie Lewis who at 14 years old is, if not the youngest then certainly one of the youngest players ever to win a men's Kent County badge. Playing with Shaun Woolford, Ian Robb and Paul Woolford they overcame a strong Sandwich 4 by 21 - 8.
Our other rink of Dave Mason, Scott Whiting, Joe Kelly and Grant Allen always seemed comfortable in their game but had a slight wobble near the end before running out 22 - 20 winners.
Both teams will now be travelling to Bellingham, Greater London on Friday 20 July to contest the County quarter finals.
Thanks yet again to our faithful supporters. As a club we were complimented by one of the Kent officials who said whenever Herne Bay are involved you can guarantee that we will have more supporters than all the other clubs put together.
