STEPH REACHES THE TOP FOUR IN ENGLAND
Steph Crates reached the last 32 of the Under 25 singles and went to Royal Leamington Spa last week. Having beaten Vicky Forster 2 -0 in the first round on Wednesday 1st August, Steph then played Laura Clarke - winning 2 - 1.
In the quarter finals she played Ruth Cullum winning 1.5 - 0.5.
In the semi-final Steph played the eventual winner Natalie Melmore drawing 1 set with the score finishing at 1.5 - 0.5. Natalie Melmore plays for Teignbridge and Devon and is also a member of the Under 25 International team. Natalie went on to win the title in the final against Kirsty Richards.
WELL DONE STEPH. and good luck in the Pairs next week.
Former Herne Bay player Sian Gordon was also in the last 32, but went out in the first round losing 2 - 0 to Kirsty Hembrow. Sian now plays for Exonia and Devon and is also a member of the Under 25 International Squad. Sian, along with Natalie and Devon team members were in the final of the Amy Rose Trophy against Surrey.
Congratulations
Ian Robb has reached the final of the County Two Wood Singles and won his County Badge. The final will be played on August 4th at Bromley BC.
Steph Crates has reached the final 32 in the National Under 25 Singles and Pairs competitions and goes to Royal Leamington.
Brendan, Ian, Joe, Jamie, Justin, Scott and Steph have all been picked this season to play for Kent under 25’s. Good luck to you all.
Management Meeting
The recent Club Management meeting decided to award £50 to any U25 player still in full time education who reaches National Finals to assist with travel expenses.
It was decided that new shirts for the U25's would not be funded by the club.
Fun Day
The Fun Day due to be held on Saturday 4th August has been cancelled due to match commitments involving the U25’s on that day.
U25 Open Competitions
The Open U25 Singles are to be played on Thursday 2nd August starting at 10am. The Open U25 Pairs matches will be played during the week starting Monday 20th August.
Men’s Invitation Fours Competition

16 teams - AEI Henley, Cobham, Danson Park, Erith and Kent, Minster, Rochester and Westheath and teams from Herne Bay competed in the annual event on the 15th of July. The top teams of the morning session went through to play for the Trophy, the others into the Plate competition. The top teams in each group then played in the finals.
Trophy Final: Stan's Smilers – Lead - Barry Cousins, 2 - Stan Miller, 3 - Peter Wilkinson, Skip - Stan Knott played Herne Bay 'B' – Lead - Denis Hanafin, 2 - Harry Algar, 3 - Brian Gisby, Skip - Robbie Irons.
Stan's Smilers won 12-5 and hold the trophy for one year.
Plate Final: Cobham – Lead - Barry East, 2 - Jim Martin, 3 - David Bowyer, Skip - Terry Ralph played Herne Bay 'F' – Lead - John Dryland, 2 - D.Thayre, 3 - Terry Dawkins, Skip - Richard Remmington.
Cobham won 17-9. Cobham also picked up a hot shot on the 6th end

Under 25
Steph Crates beat Sabrina Madgewick of Essex 2-0 in sets (11-7 and 14-2) at Herne Bay on Saturday 30th June 2007 to become the U25 Area Champion. Steph will now play in the last 32 of the EWBA National U25 Championships in Leamington Spa at the end of July.
Steph has also reached the last 32 in the U25 ladies pairs. Well done and Good Luck Steph.
County matches played Saturday 30th June 2007
Barbara Morris and Ann Moon reached the divisional final of the County Two Wood Competition and played against each other. Barbara won 17-11 and qualifies for a County badge.
Ann Moon, Ellen Foster and Barbara Morris were runners-up in the divisional final of the County Triples Competition.
Other News
The first Jean Webb Memorial Day was held at Herne Bay on Sunday 1st July, and was attended by invited clubs from across the region along with 2 teams of triples from Herne Bay. After all the cards had been scrutinised, Herne Bay and Deal 'B' tied on points and the leads bowled one wood each to decide the winner and holder of the new cup. The Herne Bay team of Ann Moon, Ellen Foster and Barbara Morris were victorious.
